Analysis of teaching material

This lesson is from  Grade 5 of PEP,Unit3 What would you like? It is the first dialog in this unit.This topic about food is related to our daily life.Students  will be interested in this topic.We try to make the students express their thoughts on eating freely.

Analysis of the students

Students in Grade 5 have known some words about food.It is not too difficult for them to say.But it is difficult for them to say the sentences freely.They need ore practice and more confidence.

Teaching aims

Knowledge  aims:

1.The students can know and say how to express “hungry and thirsty”.

2.The students can understand and speak the sentences “What would you like to eat/drink?I’d like a/an/some...

Ability aims:

1.The students can communicate with each other using the new sentences.

2.The students can apply the new sentences into their daily lives.

Moral aims:

The students can realize that they should cherish the food and love their hometowns.

Step1:

Pre-listening

I.Warming up

Free talk:

Talk about me.Show 3 numbers about me,and ask students to guess information about me.

II.Lead in

Show a picture of Sarah and talk with her using PPT.

Talk with me.

Talk with Sarah.

Students must be interested in their new teacher.It can arise students’interests.

It’s interesting that the students can talk with Sarah. And can practice their oral English.

Step2:

While- listening

Presentation

Let’s try.

Ask students to listen carefully and answer the questions on the book.

Then check the answer.

Let’s talk.

Here are 5 tasks for students:

Task 1:Look and think.

Show students the picture of the dialog.Ask students to think.

1.     Who is that man?

2.     Where are they?

3.     What are they talking about?

Task 2:Listen and answer.

Play the recording for the first time and answer the questions:

1.     What would Sarah’s father like to eat?

2.        What would he like to drink?

At last,check the answers.

Task 3:Listen and imitate.

Before listening,ask students to pay attention to the stress,intonation and pause in a sentences.Then play the recording for the second time.

Task 4:Fill in the blanks.

Ask pairs of students to fill in the blanks of the dialog.

Task 5:Let’s act

Ask the students to do the role-play with their partners.Then ask some groups to show on the stage.

Listen and answer.

Check the answer with me.

Look at the pictures and have a think. Then give their answers.

Listen to the recording carefully and answer the questions.

Check the answers.

Listen carefully and imitate exactly.

Fill in the blanks and practice the dialog with their partners.

Practice and do the role-play.

Before listening,ask students to have a think and say something about the dialog.They can prepare for listening.

Listening for some questions can make the students focus on listening.

It can make students imitate the dialog exactly.

It can help the students be familiar with the dialog and make sure they can use the sentences.

Performing can help the students apply the sentences into their daily lives.

Step3:

Post-listening

Group work:Set a situation.

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving Day(感恩节）.I will have a party at home.I hope you can come.But I don't know what you would like.Please survey your partners and then send me an email. 

Ask students to finish the survey in groups.Then ask some of them to show on the stage.

Moral education:We have rich food on our tables.But still some poor people don’t have enough food.We should cherish our food and our lives. 

Finish the survey with their partners.Then show on the stage.

Cooperative work  let the students get more communication.And this activity can expand their words and phrases. 

Let the students realize we should cherish what we have,and cherish the lives.

Homework

1. Read the dialog and make a new dialog with your partners.

2. Investigate your parents using the sentences we have learned today and then cook for them.
